English Tutoring in Adelaide for Years 1–12

English is the subject parents most often describe as "hard to help with at home". The marking feels subjective, the feedback is often vague, and a student who reads well can still lose marks for structure they were never explicitly taught. Most of what separates a B from an A in English is teachable, and that is what we teach.

For $80 per hour, we tutor English one-on-one across every year level from Reception to Year 12, in person across Adelaide or online.

What We Cover By Year Level:

Years 1–6:
Primary English

Phonics and decoding, reading fluency and comprehension, vocabulary, sentence construction, spelling and punctuation, and the beginnings of structured writing- narrative, recount and persuasive.

Years 7–10:
Middle School English

Essay structure, textual analysis, persuasive and creative writing, language and literary devices, and how to build an argument from evidence in the text rather than from opinion.

SACE English

English as an additional language, English, Essential English and Literary Studies. Text response and comparative essays, the language analysis task, creative writing, oral presentations and exam technique.

How English Sessions Work

We start with a piece of the student's own recent writing and the marker's comments, because that shows immediately whether the issue is ideas, structure, evidence or expression- four very different problems that all produce the same disappointing grade.

Sessions then combine explicit teaching of structure with practice on the texts the student is actually studying at school. We plan and draft together, then the student writes independently and we mark it against the same criteria the school uses.

Who Teaches English

English tutoring is delivered by our team of tutors, each of whom has graduated with a minimum ATAR of 90 and holds valid Working with Children and National Police Clearance checks. Tutors are matched by year level and by the type of writing the student needs to develop.

Our founder, Bren Casipit, completed Year 12 English Literary Studies to an A+ standard at Glenunga International High School and personally handles all IGNITE and selective entry preparation.
