SACE Tutoring in Adelaide, Stage 1 & 2

SACE is the South Australian Certificate of Education. Most students do Stage 1 in Year 11 and Stage 2 in Year 12, and 70% of every Stage 2 grade is earned during the year, not in the November exam. That changes what tutoring has to do. Students need help with the tasks their school actually sets, judged against the standards they're actually marked on, before those tasks are handed in.

For $80 per hour, we tutor SACE one-on-one across Adelaide, at your home, a local library or online. That covers maths, English and science, including Mathematical Methods, Chemistry and Biology.

What We Cover:

Stage 1:
Year 11

Every Stage 1 task is marked by your school. To get the SACE, students need a C or better in 20 credits of English and 10 credits of maths, plus Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF), usually done in Year 10. Stage 1 doesn't count towards the ATAR, but it decides readiness for Stage 2. The SACE Board recommends at least 20 credits of Stage 1 Mathematics before Stage 2 Methods, for example.

Stage 2:
Year 12

Each subject is 70% school assessment, marked by your teachers and checked by moderators, and 30% external, usually a 130-minute exam marked by SACE markers. Grades run from A+ to E-, and students need a C- or better in at least 60 Stage 2 credits. From Term 3, sessions shift to past SACE exams under timed conditions, an error log of every lost mark, and a revision plan that runs to the last exam.

Identities and Futures:
Formerly the Research Project

From 2026, every Stage 2 student takes Activating Identities and Futures (AIF) instead of the Research Project. It's a compulsory 10-credit subject, assessed through a Portfolio (35%), Progress Checks (35%) and an external Appraisal (30%) of up to 1,000 words. We help students choose a Learning Goal narrow enough to make real progress on, keep the portfolio going and structure an Appraisal that evaluates rather than describes. The work stays theirs.

How SACE Sessions Work

Every student starts with a free 15-minute assessment call about their subjects, school and what's due next. We match a tutor by subject and stage, and you can meet them in a free, no-obligation online meeting before the first lesson.

Because 70% of the grade is settled before the exam, most sessions focus on the next task due: learning the content, planning the response, and checking a draft against the performance standards your teacher uses. Tutors give feedback within your school's rules. They don't write the work. You get an update after every session. For study habits that work in every subject, read our guide to studying for SACE.

Who Teaches SACE

SACE students are taught by our high-achieving tutors, every one interviewed, reference-checked, and holding a current WWCC and National Police Check. For senior maths and sciences we match by discipline, so Chemistry is taught by someone strong in Chemistry and Methods by someone strong in Methods, not by a generalist. Every tutor works within our framework for teaching quality and communication.

Our founder, Bren Casipit, completed Year 12 at Glenunga International High School with Mathematical Methods to an A+ standard and Chemistry and Biology to an A standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should my child start SACE tutoring?

Before the first assessed task, ideally in Term 1. School assessment is 70% of a Stage 2 grade, and early tasks count as much as late ones. Starting in Term 3 still helps with the exam, but most of the school assessment is done by then.

Is Year 11 too early?

No. Stage 1 doesn't count towards the ATAR, but it's where gaps show up before they cost marks. Weak Stage 1 Mathematics or Chemistry causes bigger problems in Stage 2.

Will the tutor write or edit my child's work?

No. SACE work has to be the student's own, and schools check that it is. Tutors teach the content, explain the performance standards and give feedback on plans and drafts within your school's rules.

Do you help with the Research Project?

It was replaced in 2026 by Activating Identities and Futures (AIF), and yes, we help with AIF: choosing a workable Learning Goal, keeping the portfolio on track and structuring the Appraisal.

How much does SACE tutoring cost?

$80 per hour, one-on-one, in-home, at a library or online. The 15-minute assessment call is free.
