High School Tutoring in Adelaide for Years 7–10
Years 7 to 10 are where most students first fall behind. Maths turns abstract, English moves from stories to essays, and science starts asking for explanations instead of facts. A student who quietly falls behind in Year 7 usually feels it by Year 9. None of it counts towards the SACE yet, which makes it the cheapest time to fix gaps.
For $80 per hour, we tutor Years 7–10 one-on-one in maths, English and science, at your home, a local library or online. For younger students, see primary school tutoring.
What We Cover By Year Level:

Years 7–8:
Starting High School
In SA public schools, Year 7 is the first year of high school, and the jump is about organisation as much as content: more teachers, more subjects and homework due on different days. In maths: integers, fractions and percentages, early algebra and linear equations. In English: paragraph and essay structure. In science: cells, particles, forces and fair tests. Year 7 students also sit NAPLAN in March.

Year 9:
Where Gaps Widen
Algebra becomes the language of maths: expanding and factorising, linear and non-linear relationships, index laws and right-angled trigonometry. English essays are marked on argument, not just ideas. Science moves to chemical reactions, body systems, ecosystems and energy. Year 9 students sit NAPLAN in March, and tutors can use NAPLAN-style practice to make the format familiar. NAPLAN is a trade mark of ACARA. We're not affiliated with, or endorsed by, ACARA.

Year 10:
SACE Head Start
Exploring Identities and Futures, the first compulsory SACE subject, is usually done in Year 10, and Year 11 subjects are chosen now. The SACE Board recommends 20 credits of Stage 1 Mathematics before Methods, and Stage 1 Chemistry opens with the mole. Head start sessions cover Year 10 algebra and functions, a preview of Stage 1 Methods, Chemistry or Biology, and how SACE tasks are marked.
How High School Sessions Work
Every student starts with a diagnostic conversation and a look at recent schoolwork. That shows the tutor whether the problem is a missing skill, work habits or test technique. Sessions then follow the school program: checking homework, working ahead on the next topic where that helps, preparing for tests, and giving feedback on assignment plans and drafts. The work stays your child's own.
You get an update after every session on what was covered, what improved and what to focus on next.
Who Teaches High School
High school students are taught by our high-achieving tutors, every one interviewed, reference-checked, and holding a current WWCC and National Police Check. Tutors are matched by year level and subject, and you can meet them in a free, no-obligation online meeting before the first lesson.
Our founder, Bren Casipit, completed Year 12 at Glenunga International High School with Mathematical Methods to an A+ standard and Chemistry and Biology to an A standard, and personally handles all IGNITE and selective entry preparation.
Frequently Asked Questions
My child was fine in primary school and is now struggling. Why?
Usually because the work changed type. Maths turned algebraic and English turned analytical. It's normal and fixable, especially when it's caught early.
Can you help with assignments?
Yes: understanding the task, planning and feedback on drafts. The work stays your child's own.
When should a Year 10 student start preparing for SACE?
Term 4 of Year 10 is ideal. Start with whichever Stage 1 subject worries them most, usually maths or chemistry. Ask about availability over the summer on the assessment call.
Which subjects do you tutor in Years 7–10?
Maths, English and science. See maths, English and science tutoring.
