SACE Biology Tutoring in Adelaide
Biology looks like memorisation but is marked like reasoning. Students who know every term still lose marks when a question asks them to apply a process to a new example, interpret unfamiliar data or evaluate a practical. The terms have to be known cold, but the marks that separate an A from a B come from using them in tests, practical reports and the exam. We train both.
For $80 per hour, we tutor Stage 1 and Stage 2 Biology one-on-one, at your home, a local library or online. It's part of our SACE tutoring.
What We Cover:

Stage 1:
Year 11 Biology
Four topics: cells and microorganisms; infectious disease, including pathogens, the immune response and vaccination; multicellular organisms and body systems such as digestion and circulation; and biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics. A 20-credit course covers all four. Stage 1 is entirely school-assessed, so it's the year to build solid practical and report-writing skills before they count towards the ATAR.

Stage 2:
Year 12 Biology
Four topics: DNA and proteins (replication, protein synthesis, enzymes, mutations, PCR, electrophoresis, DNA profiling and CRISPR), cells as the basis of life (membranes, organelles, photosynthesis, respiration and the cell cycle), homeostasis (stimulus–response, negative feedback, the nervous and endocrine systems), and evolution (fossil and genomic evidence, phylogenetic trees, natural selection, genetic drift and speciation).

Assessment
And Exam Prep
The investigations folio is 30%: one or two practicals plus a science as a human endeavour (SHE) investigation of up to 1,500 words. Skills and applications tasks are 40%, and the external exam is 30% (130 minutes). We practise data questions and full stimulus–response and natural selection explanations, help structure reports without writing them, and run past SACE exams from Term 3. The 2026 exam is on Friday 6 November and is sat electronically.
How Biology Sessions Work
We begin with the current topic, recent assessments and any teacher feedback. That shows whether the issue is the content, applying it, reading data or written communication. The tutor explains the concept with diagrams and examples. Then the student answers exam-style questions alone: predicting what happens when a step fails, explaining an unfamiliar example, or reading an electropherogram.
Sessions follow the school program and prepare for what's due next. You get an update after every session.
Who Teaches Biology
Biology is taught by one of our high-achieving tutors, every one interviewed, reference-checked, and holding a current WWCC and National Police Check. We match senior science by discipline, so a Biology student gets a tutor who is strong in Biology. You can meet them in a free, no-obligation online meeting first. Every tutor works within our framework for teaching quality and communication.
Our founder, Bren Casipit, completed Year 12 Biology to an A standard at Glenunga International High School. Studying Chemistry too? See SACE Chemistry tutoring, or science tutoring for other year levels.
Frequently Asked Questions
Isn't Biology just memorisation?
Partly. The terms have to be known cold, but the marks that separate an A from a B come from applying them to new examples, data and practical results.
How is Stage 2 Biology different from Stage 1?
Stage 2 goes molecular, with DNA, protein synthesis, enzymes and gene technology, and adds homeostasis and evolution. It also has a 30% external exam. Stage 1 is entirely school-assessed.
Can you help with the SHE investigation?
Yes: choosing the question, planning and feedback on drafts, within your school's rules. We don't write it.
Do you tutor Chemistry as well?
Yes. See SACE Chemistry tutoring and science tutoring.
