SACE Chemistry Tutoring in Adelaide
Chemistry punishes weak foundations. If moles and quantities aren't solid by the end of Year 11, then volumetric analysis, equilibrium and yield in Year 12 all go wrong at the same step. Knowing the answer isn't enough either. Rates and equilibrium questions want a cause-and-effect explanation in full sentences. Practical reports add a third skill: planning, analysing data and evaluating results. We fix the foundation first, then train the writing.
For $80 per hour, we tutor Stage 1 and Stage 2 Chemistry one-on-one, at your home, a local library or online. It's part of our SACE tutoring.
What We Cover:

Stage 1:
Year 11 Chemistry
Six topics: materials and their atoms (atomic structure, quantities of atoms, the periodic table), combining atoms, molecules (polarity, intermolecular forces, hydrocarbons, polymers), mixtures and solutions, acids and bases, and redox reactions. A 20-credit course covers all six. Stage 1 is the jump from descriptive Year 10 science to quantitative chemistry, starting with the mole. That's the step to get right early.

Stage 2:
Year 12 Chemistry
Four topics: monitoring the environment (climate change, photochemical smog, volumetric analysis, chromatography, atomic spectroscopy), managing chemical processes (rates, equilibrium and yield), organic and biological chemistry (alcohols to esters, amides, triglycerides and proteins), and managing resources (energy, water, soil, materials). The usual sticking points are mole ratios, titrations, Kc and Le Châtelier explanations, organic naming and half-equations.

Assessment:
And Exam Prep
The investigations folio is 30%: one or two practicals plus a science as a human endeavour (SHE) investigation of up to 1,500 words. Skills and applications tasks are 40%, and the external exam is 30% (130 minutes). We help plan methods, analyse data and structure reports without writing them, drill every calculation type, and run past SACE exams from Term 3. The 2026 exam is on Wednesday 4 November.
How Chemistry Sessions Work
We begin with the current topic, recent assessments and any teacher feedback. That shows whether the difficulty is the concept, the maths, the vocabulary, the practical skills or the written explanation. The tutor explains the concept with diagrams and worked examples. Then the student works similar problems alone, with units, the way the exam expects.
Sessions follow the school program, so each one prepares for what's due next: a test, a practical report or the SHE task. You get an update after every session.
Who Teaches Chemistry
Chemistry is taught by one of our high-achieving tutors, every one interviewed, reference-checked, and holding a current WWCC and National Police Check. We match senior science by discipline, so a Chemistry student gets a tutor who is strong in Chemistry. You can meet them in a free, no-obligation online meeting first. Every tutor works within our framework for teaching quality and communication.
Our founder, Bren Casipit, completed Year 12 Chemistry to an A standard at Glenunga International High School. Studying Biology too? See SACE Biology tutoring, or science tutoring for other year levels.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Stage 1 Chemistry much harder than Year 10 science?
For many students, yes. Year 10 science is mostly descriptive. Stage 1 Chemistry adds quantitative work from the first topic, starting with the mole.
Can you help with practical reports and the SHE investigation?
Yes: planning, data analysis and feedback on drafts, within your school's rules. We don't write them.
My child needs Chemistry for a uni course but is getting Cs. What now?
Start now rather than in Term 3. The first sessions find whether the marks are going on calculations, content or written explanations. Then we work on that.
Do you tutor Biology and Physics as well?
Yes. See SACE Biology tutoring and science tutoring.
