The families who succeed at IGNITE rarely cram. They follow a steady, structured build-up that turns unfamiliar test skills into routine. Here is the timeline we recommend, working back from the late-February exam.
12 to 9 months out: build foundations
Focus on reading widely and daily maths fluency. Introduce abstract reasoning gently — a few puzzles a week — so the question style stops being foreign. No timers yet; the goal is comfort and curiosity, not speed.
9 to 6 months out: learn the test
Work systematically through each of the four components: Reading Comprehension, Mathematical Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning and Written Expression. Learn the question types, the traps and the strategies. Begin one timed writing piece per week. This is the ideal window to start structured tutoring if you want expert guidance.
6 to 3 months out: practise under conditions
Introduce timed sets for every component and sit the first full-length mock exam. Review every mistake until your child can explain why the right answer is right. Track scores so progress is visible — confidence grows from evidence.
3 months to exam day: sharpen and settle
Fortnightly mock exams under strict conditions. Refine time management: skip-and-return strategies, pacing per section, and finishing every writing piece. In the final fortnight, taper — light revision, good sleep, and reminders of how far they have come. Walk in calm, not crammed.
